  1. The Dancing Plague of 1518: In Strasbourg, Alsace, people inexplicably began to dance uncontrollably in the streets. The dancing epidemic lasted for about a month, and some participants danced themselves to death. The cause is still unknown, but theories include mass hysteria or poisoning.
